Portfolio/Protocol English Lesson about Ireland Topic: Girls Sports in Ireland Our thoughts and expectations When we heard that we want to do a project in English about a different country (Ireland), we were very happy. We thought it is cool to do some other work. Not only sitting in class, teacher stand to the front, students sitting on the chairs and listen or write exams or so. So we were happy to do something else. We dont know so much about Ireland only some prejudices. For example the Irish people think that gnomes exist or they think that on the end from a rainbow is a kettle with gold. So we knew that we will learn a lot about a special theme in Ireland. Therefor we were very curious and eager. Activites and researches 28.04.2013 In Ireland people use to play a lot of sports that are sometimes quite different from German sports. The most popular and the most played sports are Gaelic Football and Hurling (Hurling is the male version) and then there is camogie (this is the female version of Hurling). But there are also some other sports they do in Ireland but they aren’t famous for Ireland and they are also played in other countries. For example there is Basketball, Rugby, Surfing, Canoeing and Swimming. They also do athletics. 29.04.2013 Camogie Camogie is the female version of the game/match Hurling. There are two teams and one team play against to the other. Each team has got 15 members. When you play Camogie you need some

Handball

Lesson 1

Warm up: Zombie Ball

Rules: No groups. One Person throws the ball into the field.

Then you try throw everyone else out .

If you throw and the other person catches the ball, you have to sit down. If that person who shoot or catched the ball get shot by another person, you can stand up and continue to play.

Warm up: Bridge

Rules: 1 round: 1-3 catcher (Logan, Matt, Camille) 2 Round (Abril,Kyle,Julie) . The other players are running away.

Who get caught makes a bridge.

Only when a player is crawled under this bridge, the “bridge“ is allowed to play again. That person who crawled under the bridge can’t get caught.

History: Handball is a team sport where two teams of seven players each (six outfield players and a goalkeeper on each team) pass a ball to throw it into the goal of the other team.

A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Handball originated from Europe ( Germany, Scandinavia ) The Sport was an Olympic demonstration sport in 1936 and 1952 in Berlin and Munich.

The game was codified at the end of the 19th century in northern Europe.

Fallwurf : Is a form of schlagwurf but there are two types of execution: out the front or from the body rotation.

Lead up game or activity :

1. Divide the class into two teams.

The object of the game is to make five consecutive passes to teammates without losing possession of the ball.
The game begins with a throw-off at mid-court.
