Film Review: L.A. Crash. An emotional roller coaster ride

An emotional roller coaster ride

„L.A. Crash" tells interlocking stories of whites, blacks, Latinos, Koreans, Iranians, cops and criminals, the rich and the poor, the powerful and powerless in Los Angeles, all defined in one way or another by racism. All are victims of it, and all are guilty it.
Anthony and Peter, two young black criminals, steal the car of the Lawyer Richard Cabot, played by Brendan Fraser and his wife Jean, played by Sandra Bullock.

A similar car appears. Policeman Ryan, played by Matt Dillon, is on patrol with his young colleague Thomas Hanson, played by Ryan Phillippe. In it are the TV director Cameron and his wife Christine, played by Thandie Newton. In front of the Latino Cameron and his colleague, Ryan fumbles the attractive woman without one of the two men helping her.Meanwhile, the Iranian shopkeeper Farhad tries to protect himself from attacks and buys a gun and cartridges.

His store was broken, so he calls a repairman, played by Michael Peña. However, this does not lead the job to Farhads satisfaction, which leads to serious consequences.

All the stories of the characters intersect again and again, collide, together.

While at the beginning of the film, the figures are only briefly touched, Haggis penetrates in the course of the action more and more into the respective world of the person concerned and ultimately shows how the paths of different people intersect.

The film involves the viewer into conflicts and questions about guilt and morality, and unsettles him in his judgment of others, so that he has to constantly reposition himself. This is most evident in Police Officer John Ryan, who on the one hand abuses his official role in sexual activities, but on the other risked his life saving people or caring for his ailing father.

By Using intense and emotional images such as in the car accident, where the car later starts to burn or the scene of a woman being sexually abused, the film is difficult to recommend for people who have had to go through something similar or have lost their loved ones.
