The words are spoken to Scrooge.
When the two gentlemen tell Scrooge about wanting to collect money for the poor, because they suffer greatly during Christmas time, Scrooge asks them if there aren’t any workhouses or prisons.
The two people meet again in the last chapter after Scrooge went through his journey with the 3 spirits.
Scrooge is a changed man and greets the man happily, shaking his hands and thanking him for his visit. He asks for forgiveness for his previous behaviour and gives him money for the poor. Also he tells the man to stop by since Scrooge owes him many back payments. He wants to pay him back.
Each one played a key figure in changing Scrooge’s mindset. The first one mainly had the job of opening Scrooge’s heart to the prospect of change by showing him the reality of his life, the decisions leading to the person he is today. The first ghost remained quite passive by just leading Scrooge through his life and letting Scrooge judge and make is mind about his past decisions and life on his own.
This was the first time Scrooge saw the opportunities he had missed and the hearts he had broken along the way from an outsider’s point of view. The first ghost was incredibly important because by not directly scolding him, Scrooge did not close himself off to what was going to happen and the reality he was going to have to face. The second ghost manages to touch Scrooge’s heart by introducing him to Tiny Tim and showing him his inevitable future unless Scr.....
