Section 1:

1.)

At the beginning of the novel “On the beach” Moira Davidson drinks a lot of alcohol and she is a real party girl.

Her behavior changes during the story, as she meets the Navy Commander, Dwight Towers. Peter Holmes invited Towers to stay at their home for a few days, that’s when Moira met the Navy Commander. Moira and Mr. Holmes wife are friends. Towers and Moira get along very good and spend a lot of time together. Moira seems to fall in love with him and as he said that he doesn’t appreciate drinking so much and wonders why she sleeps so little.

Because of what Towers tells her, Moira begins to change. She stops to drink so much alcohol, sleeps more and starts to take part at a secretarial course. Moira starts to realize that life is something very valuable and especially short after the nuclear war has started. Even though the nuclear war took place in Asia and Europe, the radioactive dust will soon arrive in Australia.

Through this radioactivity all people will get sick and die from the consequences of the nuclear war.

2.)

There are many possible reasons why Towers doesn’t take Moira with him to sail out and sink the submarine.

A reason could be that he wants to have one last sail alone, only with his crew. He used to sail with his crew for many years, so he might want to spend the rest of his life with them. Adding to this, the US Navy doesn’t allow to take other people on board of the submarine and he might not want to break the rules of the Navy. Another reasons could be that he knows that dying from the radioactive dust is very painful and he doesn’t want Moira to feel this pain, so he might want her to take a pill and end her life faster and without pain.

Furthermore his wife in America is probably dead, because of the radiation, but he wants to stay loyal to her and is afraid to destroy the trust and r.....[read full text]

The one tree has a lot of strong branches and gets a lot of beautiful flowers in spring and in autumn people can harvest a lot of red apples in perfect sizes. The other apple tree stands in front of the big one, it is very thin and also has very thin arms. It’s leaves are dried out and move in the wind like thin hair. The tree has some apples, but they are all really nasty, small and full of worms.

The protagonist in the story thinks that the taste is very terrible. The two characters are, the thin tree is bad. It is ugly and useless and it keeps back the sun from the beautiful and bigger tree. The other apple tree is beautiful and the fruits taste very good and have the perfect size. It is definitely better than the small .....

The tree stood there alone, because he cut of the old and nearly dead tree. When he tried to touch the tree, he fell down. His foot was caught by the stump of the old apple tree, at the spot he cut it off. It drawer the protagonist deeper and he shouted for help, but nobody was there to help him, then he was taken under the soil. That’s where the story ends. I think the protagonist will die, because he is been dragged down in the soil and he can’t breathe there, in addition it is very cold and he might freeze to death.

It seems like a revenge from the tree to kill the protagonist, b.....
