  1. Technical States

  • Mary” is the biggest, longest and widest contemporary container ship

  • high: 73 m

  • length: 400 m

  • beam: 59 m

  • depth: 16,5 m

  • TEU: 18 000

  • costs: 190 million $ (20 ships ordered)

  • maximum speed 23 knots (43 km/h)

  • The “Mary” is the biggest, longest and widest contemporary container ship.

With the high of 73 m, it is as high as a twelve floor house and is 400 m long. This is comparable with three and a half soccer pitch. They are too deep to cross the Panama Canal, but can transit the Suez Canal when sailing between Europe and Asia, because a width of 59 m given her draught, she could only drive to Bremershaven and Wilhelmshaven in Germany.

  • Now a container ship could transport 18000 containers, that is 11 % more than before.

Altogether the Maersk Line has ordered 20 typ´s of the Mary, but already one costs 190 million dollars and need one year to finish.

  1. Goods in Transit d) Asian – Europe Tour

  1. Economical & Ecological Sustainable

  • 1 barrel costs 460 € → needs 100 till 120 barrels on one day

  • only drive 23 knot

    • reduces 50 % of CO2 output as the ships before

  • special energy producing system

    • could recycle hot exhaust and win new energy

  • most eco-friendly way of transport

    Advantages & Disadvantages

    Advantages

    Disadvantages

    eco friendlier

fuel oil → high destruction of the environment by crash / collision

    efficient

not used containerships or not completely loaded (Nichtbenutzte Schiffe oder nicht voll beladene)

better way to up- and unload

only to special ports, because of the size

    Save transport

    small area coverage

    cheaper

    slow speed

    save time

    need less infrastructure (only haven)

    less noise
